The Manistique property is approximately 29,000 acres and was purchased by Bluesource Sustainable Forest Company (BSFC) in 2022. The land was formerly under the ownership of Lyme Great Lakes Timberlands. The property mainly resides in Schoolcraft and Luce counties but also has tracts in Mackinac, Alger, and Chippewa counties.
BSFC acquired the property for carbon development and intends to maintain a level of commercial harvesting that prioritizes carbon sequestration and long-term forest and ecosystem health.
This property will maintain the classification under Michigan’s Commercial Forest Program and will also be Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified to ensure sustainable forest and ecosystem management.
Green Timber provided expertise in developing a management plan that satisfied the requirements of both the Commercial Forest Program and FSC certification. We also implemented and oversaw on-the-ground management activities subject to take place on the property.
