Shane C. Kleiman
Shane joined the Green Timber Consulting Foresters staff in May of 2017 after graduating from Michigan Technological University that Spring. Initial work with Green Timber focused on field inventory along with getting trained in timber sale set up. Along with this, Shane joined Green Timber’s Geographical Information System (GIS) team devoted to correctly representing timber sales and client’s forested properties through professional mapping and spatial analysis. In 2018, Shane received training on the software Green Timber uses to calculate timber volumes and values, and continues to learn additional software and develop tools to accurately estimate different timber volumes and values. In 2019, Shane acquired his Remote Pilot License, allowing him to commercially operate a drone. For Green Timber’s clients, the drone has been used to produce high resolution property maps, professional-quality real estate videos, and accurately map out timber harvest progress.
While at Michigan Tech, Shane acquired professional Master’s degrees in Forestry and GIS. Previous educational experience includes Bachelor of Science degrees in Applied Ecology and Mathematics – Statistics, also from Michigan Tech. In the summer of 2016, Shane worked for the Michigan Tech Research Institute as a GIS / remote sensing technician. In this position, Shane integrated the disciplines of GIS, remote sensing, and statistics to conduct research on environmental problems. During the summers of 2014 and 2015, Shane worked as a field forester for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, gaining experience in different timber marking and inventory techniques.
Outside of work, Shane enjoys plenty of outdoor activities. In summer, Shane focuses his free time on hiking, mountain biking, water skiing, and hanging out at Lake Superior beaches. When snow flies, he switches over to enjoying the Upper Peninsula via snowmobile, snowshoeing and CC skiing. When inclement weather forces Shane indoors, he enjoys reading and playing cards with friends & family.
