Ed joined GTCF in May of 2019 after graduating from Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry. While he was a student, Ed gained professional experience through two internships: a research-based internship at The United States Forest Service in Houghton, and a timber sales internship at The Michigan Department of Natural Resources in Baraga. His research-oriented position focused primarily around soil and peat sampling and processing. His responsibilities as a timber sales intern included: timber marking, cruising, line running, and active harvest administration. This experience as an intern allowed him to better familiarize himself with forestry practices in the Copper Country, and gain real-world experience working with logging crews on active harvests. Prior to his graduation at Michigan Tech, Ed was a teaching assistant for FW3110: Natural Resource Policy.
Ed’s responsibilities at Green Timber currently include: writing forest management plans, assessing timber sale feasibility for new clients, maintaining The Green Timber Tree Farm Group, preparing timber sales for harvest, and conducting other inventory activities. Born and raised in Dexter Michigan, Ed grew up hunting and fishing, to which he still does today. Although he enjoys all types of outdoor activities, waterfowl hunting consumes the majority of his free time during the fall.
